Finally it happened. For the first time, I was able to jetset with Mama to the United Kingdom. We flew via British Airways from Muscat to London and then to our final destination which is Newcastle where my sister LT is based. This is just the beginning of our 40-day holiday to the realm of Elizabeth Regina (ER) a.k.a. Queen Elizabeth.
Now here’s the thing, we had 7 hours layover in Heathrow. What’s in store for us who’s feet are itching to get out of the plane after a long day’s flight? I really let Rolex decide. He is my “One Directioner” in the first place while I am a lady with no sense of direction.
Rolex said yes, let’s get out of Heathrow and spend our remaining time in London before the next flight to Newcastle. The downside of exiting Heathrow is the never-ending queue in the immigration. It took us almost an hour but people-watching seemed life easier while in the line, hehe.
After our passports were stamped, we went straight to get our tickets for the London Underground (Tube). Rolex and I have kept our Oyster cards from our 2011 travel in the UK and could have easily topped it up. However, it seemed like the Tube Visitor Day Pass is the most efficient way to explore the city for only £7 per person (off-peak).
What to do in London for 2 hours?
1 hour – Immigration queue
1 hour – Travel time from Heathrow Airport to Westminster Underground Station
2 hours – London time!!! Walk, Watch, Pose, Smile, Walk…lol
1 hour – Travel time from Westminster Underground Station to Heathrow Airport
1 hour – Thanks to ISIS 🙁 Security check is becoming more and more severe.
1 hour – Lunch while waiting for our flight to Newcastle.
7 hours – Total
After 3 weeks, Mama went back to London this time with my sister LT to see the must-see spots which are not possible to visit in 2 hours like ride the London Eye, get inside Madame Tussaud and go to the Buckingham Palace.
