I am happy! Well, we all should be. So I’ll leave you with this insightful interview with Pursehappy. A Dubai-based artist with a flair for purses.
Pursehappy in Milan wearing the Celine Trio in yellow
Who are you? What do you do? Where do you live?
I go by Pursehappy on Instagram. By day, I work as an Art Director for a large multinational advertising agency and at all times, I am an artist/illustrator. I am from the Philippines and currently working and living in sunny Dubai.
What are the perks of being an Art Director. What do you love most about your job?
It’s almost just like any other office desk job actually. One of the perks of being an Art Director is seeing my ideas, concepts and illustrations come to life and touch people’s lives. It almost sounds like a cliche, but that’s what really motivates me in this profession.
Can you describe the fashion scene in your place? What is basically your fashion style?
Outfit to a fashion show
Dubai is all about bling and glamour. People here really love their labels and they are not afraid to flaunt them. We have all the world’s best designer luxury labels in the malls. It would not be an understatement to say that shopping is the national pastime.
As for myself, I love fashion as much as the next gal. I love all the current trendy brands of the moment like Celine, Isabel Marant, Acne etc. That said, my usual style is comfortable yet eclectic. I like mixing prints and wearing vintage. I love vintage! My usual getup will be highstreet and then I add touches of designer through accessories. On the other hand, I give myself a reality check from time to time when thinking about fashion. I have to be true to myself and only get what works for my lifestyle. You won’t see me buying a designer gown or dress thats for sure!
Obviously, you love the brand Celine based on your Instagram posts. What are the items you have collected so far?
Celine Pontet bracelet and Cabas in action
Celine metal plate oxfords
My first Celine was a Box Bag in black. Then came the Trio in yellow and three vintage Boxes followed. I also got a Pontet bracelet after. In Milan, I finally got a bicolor horizontal Cabas in glacier/red. I also have an Edge in Black and light yellow then the shoes that I waited for so long, the metal plate oxfords. A few days ago, I bought a cuff. See? its not that much 🙂
When did your love affair with Celine started? What’s with the brand that sets it apart from other luxury brands?
Collection : Celine Box Bag family
I only got into Celine late last year 2012. I fell head over heels in love with the Celine box and I got it once I had the financial means to do so. Ever since Phoebe Philo took over the reign at Celine, the label has grown up so much, design wise. Philo really took it to the next level. What I really like about her design philosophy is her use of clean, minimalist details and the lack of loud logos. She combines this with the use of only the best leathers and materials on her bags and this I believe, is the combination that made the new Celine a success. Her designs speak to a modern and forward thinking woman and is designed for her lifestyle.
How do you budget your splurges? Are you an impulsive buyer? What do you consider when buying luxury items? Any tips?
Some serious blings
I don’t have a fixed budget when it comes to my favorite labels. I see what I like and i buy it (within my price range of course). I am an impulsive buyer only when it comes to Celine. I am far more cautious when it comes to other brands. I can spend days agonizing whether to buy that cheap pair of pants from Topshop or not, lol! I prefer to buy retail, as opposed to online. I shop for the experience which you don’t get when you shop online. As for tips, my only rule is that when it comes to shopping, you always have to ask yourself whether this item will work with your existing wardrobe. Buy quality items that will last more than one season. You’re paying loads of money on this piece so might as well get the most out of it right? Definitely cost per wear factor comes into play.
What are the top 3 items in your closet that you can’t live without?
- Celine box bag
- a pair of gold earrings shaped like stars
- my wedding ring
What fashion piece are you obsessing right now?
The Balenciaga cut out boots with the buckles. I waited too long to buy them and now they are sold out everywhere!
What are your hobbies?
Painting, listening to soundcloud, watching the latest episodes of Breaking Bad, reading, shopping, and if course Instagramming (@pursehappy).
Customized Louis Vuitton Speedy that she painted herself.
How she styled different looks with a Celine Edge
Describe yourself in 3 words ore more.
Weird artist meets fashion obsessed shopaholic.
That concludes my interview with Pursehappy. It’s really interesting to know women who do what they love and get what they love at the same time. It’s truly such an inspiration to work hard and put our talents, skills and abilities at its best.
